Details of the Earthquake

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.5 miles. Hundreds of residents throughout the greater Los Angeles area reported feeling the tremors, as documented by the USGS “Felt Report.” The shaking was experienced from Los Angeles’ westside to the Inland Empire and beyond, as noted by KTLA viewers.

Reactions and Immediate Response

In Hollywood, KTLA reporter Glen Walker described how the “whole building was shaking pretty good.” The station’s engineering team was promptly dispatched to inspect the building and assess any potential damage.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) quickly entered “earthquake mode” following the cessation of the shaking. This protocol involves fire personnel from all 106 LAFD neighborhood stations conducting a thorough survey of their respective districts to identify any damage to local infrastructure or areas of concern.

According to LAFD officials, this assessment was expected to be completed within approximately one hour. Margaret Stewart of the LAFD informed KTLA that there had been no reports of extensive damage anywhere at the time of the update.

However, footage from Sky 5 indicated water gushing from the side of Pasadena City Hall, prompting fire crews to respond to the scene.
